Branch Internal Auditor (Bank)

About the Role:

The Internal Auditor will be responsible for independently evaluating the effectiveness of the Bank’s internal controls, operational processes, risk management framework, and regulatory compliance. The role involves conducting branch inspections, identifying operational and financial risks, ensuring adherence to RBI guidelines and internal policies, and recommending corrective actions to strengthen the Bank’s control environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct periodic internal audits of branches and Head Office departments.
  • Perform Risk-Based Internal Audit (RBIA) as per RBI guidelines.
  • Verify compliance with RBI circulars, Banking Regulation Act, Co-operative Banking regulations, and internal policies.
  • Audit deposits, advances, cash operations, remittances, lockers, clearing, and customer service functions.
  • Review loan proposals, sanction processes, documentation, disbursement, monitoring, renewals, and recovery procedures.
  • Verify KYC, AML, CDD, CKYC, FATCA, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Conduct surprise cash verification, vault inspection, and security item verification.
  • Review NPA classification, provisioning, SMA accounts, and recovery mechanisms.
  • Examine revenue leakage, income recognition, expense controls, and accounting entries.
  • Audit treasury and investment operations wherever applicable.
  • Identify fraud risks, operational lapses, policy deviations, and control weaknesses.
  • Prepare detailed audit reports highlighting observations, risk ratings, root causes, and corrective recommendations.
  • Follow up on audit observations and ensure timely compliance by branches.
  • Coordinate with Statutory Auditors, Concurrent Auditors, RBI Inspection Teams, and regulatory authorities during inspections.
  • Present audit findings to senior management and the Audit Committee whenever required.
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and strengthen internal controls.

Required Qualifications

  • Chartered Accountant (CA) preferred.
  • CA Inter / CMA / MBA (Finance) / M.Com may also be considered depending on experience.
  • CIA, CISA, DISA, or Banking Audit certifications will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • 5–10 years of experience in Internal Audit, Concurrent Audit, Inspection, Risk Audit, or Compliance.
  • Experience in Urban Co-operative Banks, Scheduled Commercial Banks, NBFCs, or Financial Institutions is preferred.
  • Hands-on exposure to branch audit and banking operations.

Preferred Candidate Profile

  • Experience auditing banking branches and Head Office operations.
  • Familiarity with Core Banking Systems (CBS).
  • Strong understanding of retail banking products, loan processes, and regulatory compliance.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining confidentiality and professional objectivity.
