Position Overview
The legal assistant will support the legal department in managing all internal and external legal matters of the company. This includes contract drafting, litigation coordination, compliance management, legal research, and communication with external stakeholders such as clients, advocates, vendors, and regulatory authorities. The role ensures that the company’s operations follow applicable laws and that legal risks are minimized.
Key Responsibilities
A. Legal Documentation & Contract Management
Draft, review, and finalize legal documents such as:
Supply, consultancy, service, purchase, subcontracting, confidentiality agreements
MoUs, NDAs, term sheets, LOIs
Tender-related documents, work orders, and project contracts
Vet contracts received from clients/vendors to ensure compliance with company policies.
Coordinate with retainer advocates and management for negotiations and execution.
Maintain a centralized and updated contract repository with renewal and version control.
B. Litigation Management & Dispute Resolution
Track all litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution matters.
Prepare case documents, summaries, and evidentiary support.
Coordinate with external counsel to ensure timely representation.
Maintain records of hearings, notices, court orders, and legal correspondence.
Assist in drafting replies to legal notices and statutory communications.
C. Corporate Compliance & Regulatory Affairs
Ensure compliance with applicable laws: Companies Act, Contract Act, Labour Laws, Environmental Laws, etc.
Coordinate ROC filings, board resolutions, and corporate governance documentation.
Support audits related to licenses, permits, and legal compliance.
Monitor regulatory updates relevant to the company’s business.
D. Legal Advisory & Internal Support
Provide legal guidance on day-to-day business activities.
Identify potential legal risks in new projects and propose mitigations.
Advise management on compliance, risk management, and contract enforcement.
Support HR in labour and employment law matters, including employee disputes.
E. Liaison & Coordination
Act as a liaison between the Legal Department and external law firms, consultants, authorities, and clients.
Coordinate with internal teams (Finance, HR, Purchase, Projects) for required information.
Attend meetings and negotiations to offer legal inputs.
F. Research, Analysis & Documentation
Conduct legal research on contracts, regulatory requirements, taxation, IP, and compliance.
Prepare legal opinions, case summaries, and policy notes.
Analyze judgments, circulars, and government notifications.
Maintain an internal legal knowledge database.
G. Record Keeping & Administrative Support
Maintain physical and digital archives of legal documents, case files, and correspondence.
Ensure confidentiality and proper document control.
Track legal expenses and coordinate invoice settlement with Accounts.
Prepare monthly MIS reports on contracts, litigation status, and compliance.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of corporate, commercial, contract, civil, and labour laws.
Excellent drafting, vetting, and negotiation skills.
Strong written and verbal communication in English.
High integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
Ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
Proficiency in MS Office and document management tools.
Qualifications & Experience
LL.B. from a recognized university.
Must be enrolled with a State Bar Council.
1–2 years of experience in corporate legal roles or law firms.
